Getting to Vieques: Island Transportation -
Vieques lies about 8 miles from the Puerto Rican mainland, and is served by both ferry and airport service. Once on the island, visitors can rent a car, scooter or bike from one of the many rental companies located near the ferry.Vieques Passenger Ferry -
Passenger ferry service to Vieques is offered several times a day from Fajardo. The 60-90 minute ferry ride costs around $2 per person. Tickets for the ferry can be purchased at the ticket booth one hour before departure. Caged pets are allowed on the passenger ferry, but not in the air-conditioned area. Cars and bicycles are not allowed on the passenger ferry, however they can be loaded on the cargo ferry with advanced reservations.Airline Service to Vieques -
Visitors have several options for flying to Vieques from the Puerto Rican mainland. Visitors can hop a 30-minute flight from the San Juan International Airport for about $170 per person, round trip. Flights from the Isla Grande Airport last about 20 minutes and cost $110 per person, round trip. The Ceiba Airport offers a quick, ten-minute flight to the island for $43 per person.Getting Around Vieques -
Once on the island, visitors can rent a car, scooter or bicycle to explore the island. Advance car rental reservations are highly recommended. Vieques also offers local taxi service called Carro Publicos. These taxi-style vehicles are a cheap way to get around to most places on the island, although they will not take visitors to the more remote beaches.Vieques Attractions -

No visit to Vieques is complete without a trip to this amazing beach that features waters filled with micro-organisms that light up the bay in a brilliant, blue-green glow whenever there is movement in the water. Visitors can take a boat or kayak tour of the bay, but check the lunar calendar before visiting, since the micro-organisms are not visible under a full moon.Bahia de la Chiva (Blue Beach) -
